Calcutta HC Directs Legal Services Authority To Take Expeditious Action To Award Compensation To Five Rape Victims
The Calcutta High Court has directed the District and State Legal Services Authorities to take expeditious action within two weeks to award compensation in five cases of rape.
"The officer-in-charge of the DLSA/SALSA are expected to take expeditious action on the communication so received by them and are also expected to do the needful in accordance with the Scheme expeditiously preferably within two weeks", a Bench of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj.
The five incidents of rape that the Court was considering are the Moynaguri incident, the Netra incident, the Namkhana incident, Shantiniketan incident and the Pingla incident.
With respect to the Netra incident, the Advocate General placed on record the progress report of investigation in the form of an affidavit and also the case diary.
With respect to the Namkhana incident also the Advocate General produced an affidavit disclosing the progress of the investigation. He informed the Court that Damayanti Sen, IPS, Special Commissioner of Police, Kolkata is supervising the investigation.
With respect to the Shantiniketan rape incident and the Pingla rape incident, reports in the form of affidavits were been placed on record. The Pingla incident is investigated under the supervision of Parul Kush Jain, IPS, IGP, Traffic, West Bengal.
