The Calcutta High Court today permitted Sree Ram Navami Sobha Yatra from Chatir Math to Gabtala at Nabadwip in West Bengal.
The Bench of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha also directed that the police may deploy the necessary security arrangements for the purpose of the Shobha Yatra.
Advocate Lokenath Chatterjee appeared for the petitioner in the Writ Petition while Senior Standing Counsel Amitesh Banerjee appeared for the state.
Petitioner Saumen Kansabanik had approached the High Court stating that he had already applied to the Superintendent of Police, Nadia for permission to conduct the Shobha Yatra.
The State opposed the plea stating that "other local functions going on in the said area since Nabadwip and the surrounding areas comprise in popular religious place of worship".
The Petitioner undertook before Court not to cause inconvenience to the public at large or disturb the other religious festivals being conducted at that place. The Petitioner also undertook to comply with all the norms including that relating to noise pollution and that there will be no littering in the areas through which the procession pass.
The Court then disposed of the Writ Petition by directing the Police to make necessary security arrangements.
