Centre Notifies Transfer Of Two Judges Of Delhi High Court And One Judge Of Chhattisgarh High Court

The Ministry of Law and Justice issued notifications regarding the transfer of two judges from the Delhi High Court and one from the Chhattisgarh High Court to different high courts. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended these transfers on March 13 and March 15.

Justice V Kameswar Rao and Sanjeev Sachdeva from the Delhi High Court were recommended for transfer to the Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh High Courts, respectively. While Justice Rao had sought transfer to any other High Court, Justice Sachdeva had expressed readiness for transfer to any High Court.

The notifications dated May 29, 2024 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao, Judge, Delhi High Court, to be a Judge of the Karnataka High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Karnataka High Court.”

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge, Delhi High Court, to be a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.”

Additionally, Justice Arvind Singh Chandel from the Chhattisgarh High Court was recommended for transfer to the Patna High Court, following his request to the collegium not to assign him to the Madras High Court, which was accepted.

The notification dated May 29, 2024 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Arvind Singh Chandel, Judge, Chhattisgarh High Court, to be a Judge of the Panta High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Patna High Court.”
