Centre Notifies Appointment Of Acting Chief Justice For Uttarakhand HC

The Ministry of Law and Justice notified the appointment of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari as the acting Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.

Justice Tiwari is set to assume this role following the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Ritu Bahri, on October 10.

The notification dated, October 09, 2024 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 11.10.2024 consequent upon the retirement of Ms. Justice Ritu Bahri, Chief Justice, Uttarakhand High Court on 10.10.2024.”

Additionally, on September 24, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Narendar G for the position of Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Narendar is currently serving as a judge on the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

This recommendation is still pending approval from the Central government.
