The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Justice Siddharth Mridul as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.
The notification dated October 16, 2023 reads, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause ( 1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Siddharth Mridul, Judge of the Delhi High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
Born on November 22, 1962, Justice Mridul’s legal journey was marked by significant achievements. After completing schooling at the Army Public School, he pursued B.A.Hons. History from Hindu College, University of Delhi, graduating in 1983. Subsequently, in 1986, he earned an L.L.B. from Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. Following enrollment with the Bar Council of Delhi in July 1986, he practiced law extensively, handling diverse cases in the High Court of Delhi, as well as in other high courts and tribunals across India.
His expertise led to notable appointments, including Standing Counsel for the Union of India in 2004 and designation as Senior Advocate in May 2006. He served two terms as a member of the Bar Council of Delhi, contributing significantly as the Honorary Secretary and Vice Chairman. His dedication extended beyond legal practice; he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Delhi in March 2008, later becoming a Permanent Judge in May 2009. Additionally, he was actively involved in various committees, addressing issues such as child labor rehabilitation, illegal constructions, and improvements in Safdarjung Hospital's functioning.
