Centre Notifies Appointment Of Chief Justice Of Punjab & Haryana HC, ACJ Of Madhya Pradesh HC

The notification dated July 04, 2024 read, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sheel Nagu, Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, to be the Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

Justice Nagu, who began his legal career as an advocate in 1987, specialized in civil and constitutional law at the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur. He was initially appointed as an additional judge on May 27, 2011, and later became a permanent judge on May 23, 2013. Earlier this year, he was designated as Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

In another notification, the Centre has notified the appointment of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva as the acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, succeeding Justice Sheel Nagu.

Justice Sachdeva's transfer to the Madhya Pradesh High Court from the Delhi High Court was effected in May this year, following his own request for the move.

Having enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi on August 1, 1988, Justice Sachdeva practiced extensively before the Supreme Court of India, the Delhi High Court, and the District Courts of Delhi. His career saw him designated as an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court in 1995.

The notification dated July 04,2024 read, “In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court consequent upon appointment of Shri Justice Sheel Nagu, Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court”
