Centre Extends Term Of Two Additional Judges Of Bombay HC, Makes Seven Additional Judges Of Bombay HC And Three Of Delhi HC Permanent

The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of seven additional judges of the Bombay High Court and three additional judges of Delhi high Court as permanent judges. Additionally, two other additional judges have been granted a fresh term of one year, effective from October 7.

These appointments align with the recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium on July 9.

The judges recommended for permanent appointment from Bombay High Court are: Justice YG Khobragade, Justice MW Chandwani, Justice AS Waghwase, Justice RM Joshi, Justice SG Chapalgaonkar, Justice MM Sathaye and Justice Neela Kedar Gokhale.

The notifications dated July 19, 2024 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices (i) Yanshivraj Gopichand Khobragade, (ii) Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani, (iii) Abhay Sopanrao Waghwase, and (iv) Ravindra Madhusudan Joshi, Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court, to be Judges of that High Court with effect from the date they assume the charge of their respective offices.”

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices (i) Santosh Govindrao Chapalgaonkar, (ii) Milind Manohar Sathaye and (iii) Dr. Neela Kedar Gokhale, Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court, to be Judges of that High Court with effect from the date they assume the charge of their respective offices.”

Justice SA Deshmukh and Justice VV Joshi have been recommended for a fresh one-year term as additional judges.

The notification dated July 19, 2024 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint i) Shri Justice Sanjay Anandrao Deshmulch and (ii) Smt. Justice Vrushali Vijay Joshi, Additional Judges of the Born* High Court, to be Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court, for a fresh term of one year with effect from 07.10.2024.”

Justice Girish Kathpalia, Justice Manoj Jain, and Justice Dharmesh Sharma have been appointed as Permanent Judges of the Delhi High Court.

The notification dated July 19, 2024 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices (i) Girish Kathpalia, (ii) Manoj Jain, and (iii) Dharmesh Sharma, Additional Judges of High Court of Delhi, to be Judges of that High Court, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.”
