Why Compensation Has Not Been Paid To Victims Of Sexual Offences Under 2018 Scheme?: Chhattisgarh HC Seeks Report
The Chhattisgarh High Court directed the Advocate General to seek instructions as to why no compensation had been paid to victims/parents of the victims of sexual offences under the Yon Utpidan / Anya Apradhon Se Pidit Mahilaon / Uttarjiviyon Ke Liye Kshatipurti Yojna, 2018.
However, the bench Of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal decided to hear this Public Interest Litigation Suo Motu when it was brought to the notice of the Court that several other victims are entitled to compensation under the aforesaid Scheme but they were not yet paid any amount towards compensation.
In that view of the matter, the Court instructed the Registrar General of the Court to seek information from the Member Secretary, Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority and to place the same on record for consideration of this Court.
As per the Court, the report stated that as of February 2024, in 753 cases, compensation is pending. It further stated that because of a lack of allotment of funds, the payment could not be made to the victims/family members of the victim.
Hence, the Court sought a report from the concerned authorities.
