Printing Work Has Resumed; Driving Licenses & Registration Certificates Are Being Dispatched: Kerala HC Closes PIL Recording Govt. Statement
The Kerala High Court closed a Public Interest Litigation filed seeking the issuance of hard copy of driving licence or registration certificate after it was informed by a communication issued by the Transport Commissioner, Motor Vehicles Department that the printing work has resumed.
The bench of Justice A.J. Desai and Justice V.G. Arun stated, “Today when the matter is called out, the learned Senior Government Pleader made available a communication dated 06.04.2024 issued by the Transport Commissioner, Motor Vehicles Department, by which it has been clarified that the printing work has resumed from 01.04.2024 and Registration Certificates as well as Driving Licences, which are printed, are being dispatched on the same day. The said communication is taken on record.”
The Petitioner, N. Prakash filed a Writ Petition in the nature of Public Interest Litigation. He alleged that the Motor Vehicles Department was not providing hard copies of Driving Licences and Registration Certificates despite collecting printing and despatching charges from applicants.
The Petitioner stated that the department should release hard copies of Driving Licences and Registration Certificates to all those who are eligible to get them and who are not being issued with as they have a right to receive them.
As per the Court, nothing survives in the Petition after the communication by the department.
Accordingly, the Court closed the Writ Petition.
