Centre Notifies Appointment Of Delhi HC Chief Justice As Supreme Court Judge
The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, as a judge of the Supreme Court of India today.
This appointment follows the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium on November 28. The decision was taken by the Collegium led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, with Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, Hrishikesh Roy, and Abhay S Oka as members.
Justice Manmohan has served as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court since September 2024. Prior to this, he had been serving as its Acting Chief Justice since September 2023. He was born on December 17, 1962, and completed his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Delhi University's Campus Law Centre in 1987. That same year, he enrolled as a lawyer with the Bar Council of Delhi and went on to practice before both the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court.
In January 2003, Justice Manmohan was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008, and was made a permanent judge on December 17, 2009.
The notification dated December 03, 2024 read, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi, to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
