Read First Transcript Published By Supreme Court Of Arguments Before Its Constitution Bench
The Supreme Court yesterday published the transcripts of the proceedings conducted on February 21, before the Constitution Bench hearing a batch of cases relating to the 2022 Maharashtra political crisis.
A screen displaying live transcription has been installed in Court Room 1, facing the lawyers and for the first, on Tuesday, the Constitution Bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud utilized Artificial Intelligence (AI) for displaying the live transcription of court proceedings.
Now, the official transcripts have been made available on the website of the Supreme Court. It has been published yesterday evening under the tab- "Latest Updates" with the caption- "Transcript of Arguments on Feb 21, 2023 in Subhash Desai Vs Principal Secretary, Governor of Maharashtra and Ors. - W.P. (C) No. 493/2022 arising from Diary No. 20234 of 2022".
The CJI earlier said that the counsel will get a link in order to look at the transcription. By the evening, the transcription agency would clean the errors from the transcript and give it thereafter to the Court.
“We’ll just see how it works, at least, in the Constitution Bench matters. We’ll have a permanent record of arguments. Of course, it will help the judges and lawyers, it will also help law colleges so they can analyse how matters are argued. It is a huge resource”, said CJI DY Chandrachud earlier.
The transcription service is being done by TERES, a company which has been providing such a facility in arbitration proceedings.
On January 16, during the hearing of a plea filed by Senior Advocate Indira Jaising regarding live-streaming of proceedings of the Supreme Court, the Senior Advocate, inter-alia, made a suggestion before the Apex Court that Audio scripts of proceedings may be allowed and archived like in the United States.
