The Supreme Court today delivered its order in a Review Petition in the three-decade old road rage case involving Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The Bench comprising of Justice A. M. Khanwilkar and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul enhanced the sentence of Sidhu by sentencing him to one-year rigorous imprisonment, in addition to a fine of ₹ 1000.

Navjot Singh Sidhu had opposed the review petition citing a previous order of the Court where it was held that there is no evidence showing that the death of the victim was caused by the single blow by Sidhu in the road rage case.

After the trial, a Patiala Court had acquitted him while the decision was reversed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, sentencing him to imprisonment of three years. The decision of the High Court was challenged before the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court had previously removed the charge of Culpable Homicide and convicted him for voluntarily causing hurt and had sentenced him to a fine of ₹ 1000. This was by a Bench of Justice Chelameswar and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul.

This order was challenged in a review petition, that was admitted in the year 2008.

Sidhu was involved in a scuffle on 27 December 1988 when he hit Gurnam Singh on his head, which led to his death.
