600 Years Of Rule By Invaders Could Not Destroy Hinduism, Some Liberals Dream Of Doing So: Senior Advocate Rakesh Dwivedi

Update: 2023-09-14 08:30 GMT

Senior Advocate Rakesh Dwivedi has reacted to recent remarks against Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma by DMK leaders and their allies, by commenting on X (earlier Twitter) that some Liberals are dreaming of destroying Hinduism, which could not be done by invaders who ruled the country for over 600 years. However, even those who agreed with him did not react kindly to him on social media and instead pointed out the remarks of his daughter targeting Hinduism.

"600 years of invaders rule over Bharat could not destroy Hinduism. Now that we have reformed our legal system and dalits are progressing, some liberals dream of destroying Hinduism", Rakesh Dwivedi said in a post on Tuesday.

"Sir, How come you were not able to raise your daughter with the same value system?", asked a social media user in reply.

"The India of the future would be without Hinduism", Divya Dwivedi, the daughter of Rakesh Dwivedi and an associate professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Delhi had said during an interview with a foreign media house during the recent G20 summit in Delhi. "Then there is an India of the future, an egalitarian India without caste oppression, and without Hinduism. That is the India which is not yet represented but is waiting, longing to show its visage to the world", she had said

Rakesh Dwivedi responded to the aforesaid question on social media by saying, "Because I don't believe in dictation. Apne apne drishtikon hai (Each have their own view)".

The ensuing conversation on the social media platform, including about the views of Rakesh Dwivedi's wife Sunitha Dwivedi, who is a journalist turned author, generated more than 200 comments on the platform and Rakesh Dwivedi responded to some of them.

In another post on the same day, Dwivedi said, "यूनान-ओ-मिस्र-ओ-रूमा, सब मिट गए जहाँ से। अब तक मगर है बाक़ी, नाम-ओ-निशाँ हमारा।। सारे...  कुछ बात है कि हस्ती, मिटती नहीं हमारी। सदियों रहा है दुश्मन, दौर-ए-ज़माँ हमारा।। सारे... For those who wish to wipe out Hinduism from Bharat. Why they focus only on Hinduism?"

Rakesh Dwivedi's arguments in support of the abrogation of Article 307 of the Constitution had garnered attention after the video of him explaining the historical background that led to the framing of the constitutional provision went viral on social media. He had appeared for a Kashmiri Pandit's organisation in support of the abrogation.  Rakesh Dwivedi had also strongly opposed the pleas for the legalisation of same-sex marriage (read here).
