Lucknow Bar Association Decides Not To Hold Felicitation For Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh Who Was Transferred To Kerala High Court
In an extraordinary turn of events, the executive committee of the Avadh Bar Association of the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench has taken a unanimous decision to not organize the felicitation ceremony in honour of Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh, who was recently transferred to the Kerala High Court.
The release dated July 17, 2023, issued by the Bar Association says that keeping in mind the tradition of organizing a felicitation ceremony for the ongoing Judges, a meeting of the committee was convened to organize a felicitation ceremony in honour of Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh, but in the meeting, views were expressed by the members against felicitation.
The members alleged that Justice Singh had displayed a lack of respect towards lawyers and used abusive language towards the Awadh Bar Association. Such conduct, they claimed, tarnished the reputation of their association. As a result of these grievances, the executive members of the Avadh Bar Association unanimously decided not to hold a felicitation ceremony in honour of Justice Singh.
Moreover, the association has warned that if a full bench meeting is convened by the Allahabad High Court to honour Justice D.K. Singh, the members of the Awadh Bar Association will strongly protest against it and will boycott the function.
The release says, "Today on 17.07.2023 at 1:30 PM, an emergency meeting of the executive committee was convened by Chairman Anand Mani Tripathi and General Secretary Manoj Kumar Mishra. As per the old tradition, organisation of a felicitation ceremony for Justice D.K. Singh who has been transferred to the Kerala High Court was considered. The office bearers and executive committee members of Avadh Bar Association expressed their opinion that Justice D.K. Singh's behaviour towards the members of the Awadh Bar Association has not been good and that he has used a lot of abusive words towards the Awadh Bar Association, which has tarnished the reputation of a respected institution like the Awadh Bar Association. Due to this, the executive committee unanimously takes the decision that the Avadh Bar Association will not organize a felicitation ceremony for Justice Singh and if a full court reference by the High Court is held in the honour of Justice Singh, then members of the Awadh Bar Association will protest against it and will not attend it."
Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh was transferred from Allahabad High Court to Kerala High Court on July 15, as per the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium on July 12.
Earlier, in April this year, the Avadh Bar Association had passed a resolution to boycott the Court of Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh citing alleged misbehaviour with lawyers appearing before him. However, the said decision was later withdrawn by the Association.
