Delhi Court Directs Police To Administer Covid Vaccine To Accused In Constable Ratan Lal's Murder

A Delhi court has ordered the Delhi Police to administer the second dose of Covid -19 vaccine to one of the accused in the murder of Head Constable Ratan Lal during the Delhi riots.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amitabh Rawat was hearing an application moved by the accused under Section 207 of the CRPC.

The Counsel for one of the accused submitted that his client got the first dose of the vaccine in July 2021 and jail authorities have not made any arrangements for his second dose of the vaccine. He further submitted that hot water is not being supplied despite the cold weather. To this, the Judge directed "Jail Supridenent to arrange hot water as per rules and arrange Covid -19  vaccination to the concerned accused".

The Judge, on the application moved under Section 207 by the Counsel for the accused, observed that the Counsel for the accused has already received the copies of the supplementary charge sheet from the investigating officer.

The case has been committed to the Additional Sessions Judge and will be heard on January 22.

On the previous date of hearing the court reprimanded the police authorities for their lackadaisical authorities and directed them to supply the deficient copies to the concerned accused.

The case relates to the murder of head constable Ratan Lal, by a violent mob in the Chand Bagh Area.

The FIR alleges that on February 24, 2020 information was received about anti CAA protestors sitting at Slip Road of Wazirabad near Chand Bagh, Delhi blocking the Wazirabad Road, including the road at B Block, Yamuna Vihar.

To maintain law order at Chand Bagh protest site, DCP(Shahdara) Amit Sharma, ACP (Gokal Puri) Anuj Kumar, and some other police officials including Head Constable Rattan Lal were present near the protest site at Chand Bagh. At around 1 pm, the mob, without provocation, attacked the police party in which Rattan Lal was killed and several other police officials were also injured.
