Kerala High Court Advocates' Association To Boycott Work Tomorrow Over Assault On Lawyer By Police
The General Body of the Kerala High Court Advocates' Association has passed a resolution today to boycott Court work tomorrow i.e., September 20, 2022, if demands of Kollam Bar Association in connection with the assault on lawyer by Police is not met today. The demands include suspension of the erring police officials.
"It is informed to our esteemed members that the Extra Ordinary General Body dated 19.09.2022 has unanimously decided to boycott and abstain from Court work on 20.09.2022, if the demands of Kollam Bar Association is not met by today evening, especially on the issue of suspension of erring police officials", the resolution passed in an extraordinary general body meeting of the Association said.
This comes after lawyers of the Kollam Bar Association had protested against the Police for allegedly assaulting an Advocate in the Karunagapally Police Station. As per Lawyers, the Advocate was taken to custody on September 5 and assaulted while inside the Police station.
A Police vehicle was damaged in the protest by lawyers inside the Court complex in Kollam and the Police alleged that a Sub Inspector was injured in the incident. The Police have registered a case against 65 lawyers in relation to the incident.
The Kollam Bar Association continues to boycott Kollam Court while demanding action against the Police officers.
The Bar Council of Kerala had called for protests by lawyers across the state against the alleged police excess. The lawyers of the High Court today conducted a protest march outside the High Court building and wore protest badges in Court.
