Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Elevation Of Justice Dipankar Datta As Judge Of The Supreme Court

The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice Dipankar Datta, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, as Judge of the Supreme Court.

"The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 26th September, 2022 has recommended elevation of Mr. Justice Dipankar Datta, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court (PHC: Calcutta), as Judge of the Supreme Court.", the statement released on the Supreme Court website read.

Justice Dipankar Datta was born on February 9, 1965. He is the Son of late Salil Kumar Datta, a former Judge of the High Court at Calcutta, and brother-in-law of Justice Amitava Roy, former Judge of the Supreme Court. He served as the Junior Standing Counsel for the State of West Bengal from May 16, 2002 to January 16, 2004. He represented as the counsel for the Union of India since 1998. He has appeared for a number of educational authorities and institutions including the University of Calcutta, W.B. School Service Commission and W.B. Board of Secondary Education. Justice Dipankar Datta was elevated to the Calcutta High Court as a permanent Judge on June 22,2006. He was elevated as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court on April 28, 2020.
