Supreme Court To Host Screening Of Film 'Laapataa Ladies' On Aug 9 For Judges And Registry As Part Of Gender Sensitization Initiative

As a part of a unique initiative by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, the Supreme Court will today organise a special screening of the Hindi film "Laapataa Ladies" for all Supreme Court Judges, their spouses, and members of the registry.

The screening will be attended by the film’s producers, Bollywood veteran Aamir Khan, and director Kiran Rao. The screening is set to take place at the auditorium of the Supreme Court’s administrative building complex.

"As part of the activities organized during the seventy-fifth year of the establishment of the Supreme Court of India, the movie 'Laapataa Ladies', which is based on the theme of gender equality, will be screened on Friday, August 9, 2024, in the Auditorium, C-Block, Administrative Building Complex. Kiran Rao, who has directed the movie, and Aamir Khan, the producer, will also be present during the screening," the circular reads.

The movie will be screened from 4.15 to 6.20 pm.

The circular of the Apex Court also stated that the screening of the movie is part of the activities organised during the 75th year of the establishment of the Supreme Court of India.

Laapataa Ladies, currently streaming on Netflix, received critical acclaim upon its theatrical release on March 1, 2024, and was also featured at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2023.
