The Delhi High Court, in a plea filed a NEET Aspirant challenging the criteria for 85% Reservation in Delhi, has issued notice to the Respondents and sought their response.

The Bench headed by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav issued notices to Delhi Government, Directorate General Health Services, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), and Delhi University (DU).

Senior Advocate Arvind Nayar appeared for the Petitioner while ASC Anuj Aggarwal appeared for the Respondents.

The plea filed by a NEET Aspirant challenged the arbitrariness in the State Quota of Delhi. Delhi had 85% reservation for students of Delhi. However, the criteria was not based on residential status but on the basis of 11th and 12th school certificate from Delhi for admissions to various colleges.

This, according to the Petitioner was arbitrary and led to many dummy schools operating wherein students were given a chance to pass their exams of 11th and 12th from Delhi to avail the benefit of the aforesaid quota.

The Petitioner in his petition prayed for residential status being one of the criteria for the State Quota. Further, an investigation and action against the said dummy schools was also sought by the Petitioner.

Accordingly, after hearing the submissions, the Court sent notices to all the Respondents involved and sought a reply within 2 weeks with the matter being listed next on August 07, 2023.

Cause Title: Reet Singla v. Govt. of N.C.T of Delhi and Ors.
