SC Collegium Recommends Appointment Of 10 Additional Judges Of High Courts As Permanent Judges & Extension Of Term Of 2 Additional Judges
|The Supreme Court Collegium comprising CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justice B.R. Gavai has recommended the appointment of Additional Judges as permanent Judges of the Bombay High Court and Delhi High Court and extension of term of two Additional Judges.
The following names have been recommended for the appointment of Additional Judges as permanent Judges of the Bombay High Court:
• Justice Yanshivraj Gopichand Khobragade
• Justice Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani
• Justice Abhay Sopanrao Waghwase
• Justice Ravindra Madhusudan Joshi
• Justice Santosh Govindrao Chapalgaonkar
• Justice Milind Manohar Sathaye
• Justice Neela Kedar Gokhale
The following names have been recommended for the appointment as Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court for a fresh term of one year with effect from October 7, 2024:
• Justice Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh
• Justice Vrushali Vijay Joshi
The Resolution dated July 9, 2024, reads, “A Committee of two Judges of the Supreme Court constituted by the Chief Justice of India in terms of the Resolution dated 26 October 2017 of the Supreme Court Collegium has assessed the judgments of the above Additional Judges and rated the judgments authored by them as ‘upto the mark’. … With a view to assess the merit and suitability of the above-named Additional Judges for their appointment as permanent Judges, the Collegium has scrutinized and evaluated the material placed on record including the opinion of the consultee-judges and the report of the Judgment Assessment Committee.”
The following names have been recommended for the appointment of Additional Judges as permanent Judges of the Delhi High Court:
• Justice Girish Kathpalia
• Justice Manoj Jain
• Justice Dharmesh Sharma
The Resolution dated July 9, 2024, reads, “The members of the Committee of the Supreme Court constituted by the Chief Justice of India in terms of the Resolution dated 26 October 2017 of the Supreme Court Collegium have assessed the judgments of the above-named Additional Judges. On evaluation of the judgments, the members of the Committee have rated the quality of judgments as ‘Good’. … With a view to assess the merit and suitability of the above Additional Judges for appointment as permanent Judges, we have scrutinized the material placed on record including the observations made by the Department of Justice in the file.”
