The Supreme Court Collegium has today recommended transfer of two judges of the Delhi High Court. The Collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice V Kameswar Rao of the Delhi High Court.

The Collegium has recommended transfer of Justice Rao to the Karnataka High Court.

"By a communication dated 4 March 2024, Mr Justice V Kameswar Rao, Judge, High Court of Delhi, has requested for transfer to any other High Court. Acceding to his request, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Mr Justice V Kameswar Rao be transferred, in the interest of better administration of justice, to the High Court of Karnataka", the resolution says.

Justice Rao was elevated as a judge of the Delhi High Court on April 17, 2013. As such, once the recommendation is acted upon by the Union Law Ministry, Justice Rao will become the senior most Puisne Judge of the Karnataka High Court.

Incidentally, the Collegium had last month recommended the transfer of Justice Anu Sivaraman of the Kerala High Court to the Karnataka High Court. Justice Sivaraman would have been the senior most Puisne Judge of the Karnataka High Court once the Centre notified transfer, which is yet to be done.

Justice Rao is senior to Justice Sivaraman, who was appointed as Judge on April 10, 2015. Like in the case of Justice Sivaraman, Justice Rao has also been transferred upon his own request.

Before his elevation, Justice Rao was designated a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in the year 2010.

The Collegium has recommended transfer of Justice Sachdeva to the Madya Pradesh High Court.

"By a communication dated 3 March 2024, Mr Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge, High Court of Delhi, has expressed willingness to be transferred to any Court. Acceding to his request, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Mr Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva be transferred, in the interest of better administration of justice, to the High Court of Madhya Pradesh", the Collegium resolution says.

Justice Sachdeva was appointed as a Judge of the Delhi High Court on the same date as Justice Rao and was earlier designated a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in the year 2011.
