The Bar Council of India has written to the Chief Justice of India requesting the Supreme Court Collegium to consider the elevation of the Judges of those High Courts/States that are unrepresented in the Apex Court.

"It is the humble request of the Bar Council of India to the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India Collegium to consider the elevation of the Judges of those High Courts/States who are unrepresented in the Supreme Court.", the letter by BCI Chairman Senior Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra said.

The letter further mentioned that some bigger states having vast population are unrepresented in the Supreme Court since the last several months.

Out of the current Judges in the Supreme Court, the highest number of Judges are from Delhi High Court, followed by Bombay, Karnataka and Gujarat High Courts with three Judges each.

Two Judges each are from the Rajasthan, Kerala, Madras and Allahabad High Courts. High Courts of Patna, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradhesh, Calcutta, Uttarakhand and Gauhati also have one Judge each in the Supreme Court.

Two Judges, Chief Justice UU Lalit and Justice PS Narasimha were elevated directly from the Supreme Court bar.
