The Supreme Court Advocates-On-Record Association (SCAORA) has condemned the brutal attack on the late Advocate Virender Kumar Narwal who was practicing in New Delhi, that lead to his death.

In its resolution, the SCAORA has said that the murder of an officer of the court is a crime against humanity and an assault on rule of law and the administration of justice.

The Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), has also condemned the murder and demanded a law for the protection of Advocates.

The SCAORA resolution says, “The SCAORA notes, with deep distress and shock, advocate Shri Virender Narwal's brutal shooting in broad daylight on a public road with complete impunity, leading to his death. … SCAORA condemns the murder of an officer of the court in the strongest words.”

The association has demanded that a speedy judicial enquiry be conducted forthwith.

“SCAORA demands that the government should immediately take steps to bring forth the long overdue Advocates Protection Act to protect practicing advocates from crimes and assaults to them, and their families, arising from their work and due discharge of duty.”, says the resolution.

Earlier this week, the State Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana sent two drafts of the Punjab Advocates (Protection) Bill 2023 and Haryana Advocates (Protection) Bill 2023 to both the States of Punjab and Haryana demanding the enactment of the same at the earliest. It warned of initiating peaceful protest by participating in a state-wide agitation if adequate steps are not taken for the same.
