Centre Notifies Appointment Of 4 CJs In Different High Courts
|The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of four Chief Justices in the High Courts of Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Gujarat and Gauhati.
The details of the appointment are as follows-
• Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge of the Orissa High Court appointed as Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.
• Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, Judge of the Gauhati High Court appointed as Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
• Justice Sandeep Mehta, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court appointed as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court
• Justice Sonia Giridhar Gokani, Judge of the Gujarat High Court appointed as Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court
Justice Jaswant Singh was elevated as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2007. Thereafter he was transferred and took oath as a Judge in the High Court of Orissa in October 2021.
Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh was sworn in as a Judge of the Gauhati High Court in 2012. He was appointed as a Judge of the Manipur High Court upon its creation with effect from March 2013. On transfer to Gauhati High Court, he assumed charge as a Judge of Gauhati High Court in 2018. Thereafter he was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
Justice Sandeep Mehta was a member of the Bar Council of Rajasthan from 2003 to 2009 & 2009 till the date of elevation.
Justice Sonia Giridhar Gokani joined Judiciary directly in the cadre of District judges as a Judge, City Civil & Sessions Court, Ahmedabad in 1995. She worked as a Judge in Special Court C.B.I for the cases investigated by CBI. On February 2011 she was elevated as Additional Judge of the Gujarat High Court and was confirmed as a permanent Judge in 2013.
