Asaduddin Owaisi, the Member of Loksabha from the Hyderabad constituency has objected to the recent remarks by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud made while speaking while inaugurating a new Court in Rajkot, Gujarat.

Chief Justice Chandradchud had said on Sunday that he was inspired by the 'Dhwaja' (flag) of the Dwarkadhish temple of Gujarat and that there is a universality of traditions in our nation which binds all of us.

"I was inspired this morning by the Dhwaja at Dwarkadhish ji. Very similar to the Dhwaja which I saw at Jagannath Puri. Look at this universality of the tradition in our nation, which binds all of us together. This Dhwaja has a special meaning for us and that meaning which the Dhwaja gives us is- there is some unifying force above all of us as Lawyers, as Judges, as citizens and that unifying force is our humanity, which is governed by the rule of law and by the Constitution of India", the CJI had said.

In response to the remarks of the CJI, Owaisi posted on X- "For me, the only dhwaja that signifies the unity of all Indians is the Tirangha. The only dhwaja or flag of justice is the Indian tricolour. It is strange to call the symbol of one faith as the symbol of all of humanity. It is even stranger when such words are uttered by constitutional authorities. Watan e Aziz has NO Religion it celebrates every religion, it celebrates people who don’t believe in God also".

Reacting to Owaisi's comment, BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok said, "If you visit Owaisi's house, you can see an Islamic flag there; you won't see a tricolor flag. The saffron flag has been there (Dwarka temple) for the last 5000 years. Owaisi should not have the courage to target the saffron flag".

Incidentally, the flag of 52 yards that is unfurled above the Dwarkadhish temple is not saffron but has red, green, blue, purple, saffron, white and yellow colours, and bears symbols of the Sun and the Moon. Likewise, even the flag of the Puri Jagannath temple in Orissa is not just saffron but contains other colours.
