Chief Justice of India N V Ramana was conferred the Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) degree at the 82nd convocation of Osmania University in Hyderabad on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Justice NV Ramana said that the global culture is emerging as a threat to local cultural symbols and identities.

"Driven by the winds of globalization, we are moving towards a global culture. As this global culture engulfs the world, the need for sustaining diversity assumes great significance. The global culture is emerging as a threat to local cultural symbols and identities.", he said in the presence of Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundarajan.

He stressed for the need to find a model of globalization which is sustainable, equitable and just for all.

"We need to find a model of globalization which is sustainable, equitable and just for all. Such a model of globalisation demands harmony, respect and coexistence of differing identities. Peace and prosperity can only prevail in a society built on consensus and a sense of fraternity. Beyond the ideas of tolerance, we need acceptance. We should not seek uniformity, rather we should seek unity", he said.

He emphasized the need to think about the impact of globalization in our daily lives while observing that a huge ecological imbalance is staring at us.

He also said that societies are becoming increasingly divided over access to wealth and resources and opined that the rising inequities between classes required urgent attention.

While insisting on propagation of constitutional culture CJI Ramana said that "It is high time for all institutions, to introduce a subject on the basic ideas about constitution and governance, irrespective of the stream of learning."

He further observed that students must be aware about the basic laws and principles that govern the land and also remarked that citizens must connect with Indian constitution as it's the ultimate safeguard for citizens.

He further highlighted the ultimate purpose of education which according to him should not stop with providing skills for employability.

"Education, unlike vocational training, should not stop with providing skills for employability. It is expected to combine perception and patience, emotion and intellect, substance and morals. Critical thinking is essential for the growth of every individual, society, and the nation. True education is what nurtures true impulses and independent thinking. Instead of being prisoners of status quo, we need youth to dive deep and bring transformation from within.", he said in his address.
