CJI Chandrachud To Be Conferred With Award For Global Leadership By Harvard Law School
|Harvard Law School Center on the Legal Profession (HLS CLP) would confer the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud with the 2022 "Award for Global Leadership” for his lifetime of service to the legal profession in India and around the world.
The Award would be presented in the ceremony which will be held online on January 11, 2023, 7 pm - 8 pm and people interested can even register for the same.
In the ceremony, a conversation between Chief Justice Chandrachud and Professor David Wilkins of Harvard Law School, upon CJI’s appointment as the 50th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India has also been arranged.
Professor Wilkins, CLP faculty director, while making this year’s announcement, said that “I know how much India, and indeed the world, need Justice Chandrachud’s leadership, particularly on issues such as the mental health and the well-being of lawyers which he spoke about so eloquently at our conferences in 2017- long before the global pandemic placed this issue in the forefront of the profession’s consciousness.”
“Award for Global Leadership” is conferred, each year, on leading academics, legal practitioners, and thought leaders to honour and recognise individuals whose achievements had been impactful to the legal profession.
The Award had earlier been bestowed upon Kenneth C. Frazier former Chairman and CEO of Merck & Co., Brad Smith, Vice Chair of Microsoft, Samantha Power, US Ambassador to the United Nations and current Director of the Agency for International Development, Katherine Adams, Senior Vice President, and General Counsel, Apple Inc.
CJI DY Chandrachud holds an LLM and an SJD from Harvard Law School.
