Refrain From Raising Funds Through Advertisements Showcasing Vulnerable Children: NCPCR To NGOs

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on December 2, issued a notice to all NGOs informing them to refrain from raising funds through advertisements on print, electronic, social media, or websites by showing vulnerable minor children in deplorable conditions.

The Commission said that showcasing minor children in such a way is violative of Child Rights and also Justice Juvenile Act, 2015.

In its letter, NCPCR has informed all the NGOs that the Commission has been in receipt of a complaint wherein a Member of Parliament has raised concern to the Commission that various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are seen raising funds including domestic and international for their NGOs through advertisement on print media, news channels, websites, social media, and radio while showing vulnerable minor children in deplorable condition.

The Commission has further informed that in the said matter, it has come across various such advertisements and fund-raising activities by prominent NGOs and organizations.

Therefore, it has urged all NGOs to refrain from practicing such activities that involve using of pictures, videos, or any such material that showcases vulnerable children in deplorable conditions to raise funds as it violates child rights, which is in contravention of the provisions of Justice Juvenile (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
