Calcutta HC Orders Videographed Post-Mortem Of Yuva Morcha Leader Found Hanging With His Feet Touching The Ground
|The Calcutta High Court has ordered the autopsy of the body of Arjun Chaurasia, the Vice President of Yuva Morcha of Kashipur, Belgachua Mondal-I of Bharatiya Janata Party and videography of the procedure in the presence of experts.
The body of the young leader was found hanging on Friday in a vacant room of a railway quarter with his feet touching the ground.
It was submitted by Amrita Pandey, the Petitioner before the High Court that Arjun is a victim of post-poll violence and that under the orders of the High Court, he had returned to his house when he went missing on Thursday evening.
It was submitted by Subir Sanyal, the Advocate for Petitioner that the body of the deceased was dragged by the police and the family members of the deceased were beaten up by the Police. It was also alleged that the Police are trying to pressurise the family and establish that it is a suicide and not homicide. The Petitioner expressed apprehension that evidence will be destroyed during the autopsy.
"There is also an allegation that the police atrocities have been done at the instance of one of the MLA of the ruling party in the State", the Court noted.
Amitesh Banerjee, Senior Counsel appearing for the State denied the allegations.
"Having regard to the circumstances which have been disclosed before us, we are of the opinion that the postmortem of the body of deceased Arjun Chaurasia should be done at the Command Hospital which is stated to beonly 5-6 kilometers away from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Hence, we direct accordingly" the Bench of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj directed.
The Court also directed that the Head of the Command Hospital will constitute a team of experts for the purpose of the post-mortem and at the time of post-mortem, expert from AIIMS, Kalyani as also the Head of the Department of Forensic Science, R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital can remain present. The CJM, South 24-Parganas has also been directed to remain present at the time of the post-mortem.
The Court also directed videography of the post-mortem to be done.
