A tailor in Udaipur of Rajasthan was beheaded, allegedly for a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma. The act has been captured on video by the assailants, who have also published a video issuing a threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A few days back, a Delhi court had granted bail to Bhim Sena chief Nawab Tanwar who had threatened and announced a bounty of Rs. one crore on the now-removed BJP spokesperson, Nupur Sharma, over her remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

The video that is being circulated on social media shows the assailants arriving at the victim Kanhaiya Lal's shop on the pretext of wanting a dress stitched. The video shows one of the assailants permitting Kanhaiya Lal to take his measurements when he starts hacking him.

The two assailants have released a video after the gruesome murder threatening to attack the Prime Minister. The assailants, one of whom identifies himself as Muhammed Riyaz, raise the slogan "gustakh e nabi ki ek saza, sar tan se juda", which has been raised in protests against Nupur Sharma's remarks in different parts of the Country.

In October 2019 Kamlesh Tiwari was murdered by slitting his throat inside his residence in Lucknow, for alleged blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad. In September 2021, the Supreme Court declined to transfer the trial of the murder case out of Uttar Pradesh at the request of the accused and instead transferred it from Lucknow to Prayagraj.

The Madras High Court has held that expressing one's understanding of the history of Prophet Muhammad and his family is not an offence (read column).
