The Telangana High Court directed the Bar Council of India, Telangana Government, Telangana State Council For Higher Education and Osmania University to make sincere endeavour to adhere to the U.G.C./Bar Council of India guidelines for the purpose of admissions in Law courses.

The High Court was considering a PIL filed by an Advocate with a plea to declare undue delay in admissions to law courses in Telangana for the AY 2023-24 as arbitrary breach of substantive Legitimate Expectations and consequently direct the Respondents to strictly adhere to the academic calendar by completing the counselling and admissions to Law Courses before July each year.

The Division Bench comprising Justice Sujoy Paul & Justice K.Sarath observed, “The parties agreed that a direction may be issued to the respondents to make sincere endeavour to undertake the admission process henceforth, in accordance with the U.G.C./Bar Council of India guidelines.”

A.Bhaskar Reddy appeared as party in person while Additional Advocate General Mohammed Imran Khan represented the Respondents.

During the course of hearing, the counsel for the parties reached a consensus.

The Bench noted that it was agreed that the whole anxiety of the petitioner was to ensure that the entire admission process takes place and completes as per the calendar prescribed by the University Grants Commission (U.G.C.)/BCI.

It was also noticed by the Bench that it was also agreed that the admission process of present academic year was already over.

Thus, considering the fact that parties agreed for a direction to be issued to Respondents, the Bench ordered, “In view of consensus arrived at, this Writ Petition is disposed of, by directing the respondents to make sincere endeavour to adhere to the U.G.C./Bar Council of India guidelines for the purpose of admissions in Law courses.”
