Delhi HC Raises Concern Over Bomb Threats To Schools, Seeks Response From GNCTD And Police On Detailed Action Plan
The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Government of NCT Delhi (GNCTD) and the Police for a detailed action plan over the hoax bomb threats received by the schools in Delhi, which raised concerns.
The Bench further impleaded the Action Committee Unaided Private School and Private Land Public School Trust as parties in the matter.
The Court listed the plea on July 31, 2023.
“…Let a status report be filed by Delhi Police in respect of the bomb threats which were reported to them. An action plan shall also be filed by the Respondents after consulting all stakeholders. The aforementioned Associations impleaded today may also give their suggestions to the Respondents and also place the same on record”, Justice Pratibha M. Singh observed on the issue.
Advocates Beenashaw N Soni with Arpit Bhargava, appeared for the petitioner, and Advocate Santosh Kr Tripathi, appeared for GNCTD.
The petitioner is a parent of a child studying at Delhi Public School Mathura Road, New Delhi, who raised concerns, stating that recently there have been many instances where several bomb threats were made in schools in Delhi, due to which the children, parents, and staff of schools are being repeatedly traumatised.
Further, the petition mentions specific examples of the bomb threats that were given in November, 2022 and April, 2023 to the Indian School in Sadiq Nagar, New Delhi as also to DPS Mathura Road in April, 2023 and May, 2023. News reports pertaining to the same incidents were also placed on record.
Therefore, through the petition, a detailed action plan by the police, the schools, and the GNCTD is sought to ensure that proper action is taken against such hoaxes. Furthermore, considering the eventualities of a real threat, a proper response plan that can be uniformly implemented across schools in Delhi was also prayed for.
