Calcutta High Court Grants Permission For Shri Ram Mandir Inauguration Celebration In South Kolkata
The Calcutta High Court permitted Kalighat Bahumukhi Seva Samiti to hold a function to mark the inauguration of Ayodhya Shri Ram Mandir on 22nd January in South Kolkata
The Samiti had filed an application to get permission to organise the live telecast of the inauguration of Shri Ram Mandir on 22nd January, 2024 from 9 am to 9 pm. They also sought permission to perform puja by constructing a temporary stage.
The Samiti had simultaneously requested the permission of the police authorities to organise the ceremony with the visual display of the inauguration ceremony of Shri Ram Mandir on giant screen with ‘Puja Archana’, ‘Sankirtan’ and ‘Arati’, followed by ‘Bhog Prasad bitaran’.
A Single Bench of Justice Jay Sengupta granted the permission sought and directed, “The petitioner shall abide by the necessary norms regarding the use of the sound equipments and other prevailing laws.”
Advocate Tarunjyoti Tewari represented the petitioner, while Advocate Amitesh Banerjee appeared for the respondent.
The Samiti had earlier faced objections from the State Government, post which they notified the municipal Corporation that they would hold the ceremony/function at a different location from 9 am to 6 pm.
The Samiti assured that they would only occupy a limited space in the park with 50-60 participants and were amenable to having the ceremony till 4 pm.
Subsequently, the Court granted permission for the ceremony and directed the police to render any help required to set up.
The Court also directed, “After the programme is over, the petitioner shall clean the area so that the normal activities can be resumed there.”
The High Court disposed of the writ petition with the directions mentioned.
