Centre Notifies Appointment Of Judicial Officer As Additional Judge Of Kerala High Court
The Department Of Justice has recommended the name of Judicial Officer Marakkaparambil Bhargavan Snehalatha, to be appointed as Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court.
The notification dated April 19,2024 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by Clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Marakkaparambil Bhargavan Snehalatha, to be an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court, for a period of two years, with effect from the date she assumes the charge of her office.”
Recommended by the Supreme Court collegium on October 10, 2023, Snehalatha was among five judicial officers proposed for elevation. While three of them, namely Justices Johnson John, G Girish, and C Pratheep Kumar, assumed office as additional judges on October 25, Snehalatha's appointment was confirmed over six months later.
As of April 19, the Kerala High Court operates with 41 judges, whereas its sanctioned strength is 47. With the latest appointment, the number of vacancies will decrease to five.
