The 9th International Yoga Day celebration at the Supreme Court today was attended by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and other judges and officers of the Supreme Court.

The event was held at the Yoga and Recreation Hall in the newly built additional building complex. Justice PS Narasimha, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Pankaj Mithal also participated in the event. The SCBA President Dr Adish C Aggarwala also attended the event.



It was informed yesterday that the event will begin at 8.30 am and that participation in the event will be on a voluntary basis. It was also announced that the Yoga Asanas practised during the event will be supervised by experts.

By a resolution on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. The draft resolution for establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states. The proposal was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly.

The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.

The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations is celebrating the 9th annual International Yoga Day today at the North Lawn of UN Headquarters in New York. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event.

Various High Courts are also holding Yoga Day celebrations in the Court premises. The event in the Kerala High Court will be held in association with the National Ayush Mision at 4.45 pm today in the High Court Building.
