The President of the Supreme Court Bar Association and Senior Advocate Vikas Singh today mentioned the Bar's request for declaration of a holiday on Raksha Bandhan.

Vikas Singh mentioned the issue today before the Bench of Chief Justice N. V. Ramana.

"It is a request from the Bar. Let a Saturday be a working day", Vikas urged the Bench. "I will ask my brother judges", replied the Chief Justice, stating that it can be done if other judges are also willing.

Last week, the Registry of the Court had rejected the same request from the Bar Association. "I am directed to inform that the request has not been acceded to by the Competent Authority", said a letter from the Assistant Registrar (AG) of the Supreme Court to the Secretary of the Association.

The Association had written a letter on July 19, 2022, seeking declaration of holiday on Raksha Bandhan.

This year, Raksha Bandhan is on August 11. Supreme Court has a holiday on August 9 for Muharram. Last year, Raksha Bandhan was on August 22, Sunday.

In the year 2020 Raksha Bandhan was declared a holiday by the Supreme Court. In 2019, Raksha Bandhan was on the Independence Day, and in 2018 on a Sunday. Raksha Bandhan in 2017 was also declared a holiday by the Supreme Court.
