Two New Supreme Court Judges To Be Sworn In Today After Late Night Appointment By Centre
The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Senior Advocate K V. Vishwanathan and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra to the Apex Court.
The notification read as, "In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Kalpathy Venkataraman Viswanathan, to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
The other notification appointing Justice Mishra to the Supreme Court reads, "In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra is the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and his parent High Court is the Chhattisgarh High Court. K V. Vishwanathan enrolled in the year 1988 and was designated as a Senior Advocate in the year 2009.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names for elevation in the wake of the retirement of Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice M. R. Shah this month.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new appointments would take place today morning at 10:30.
