SC Collegium Recommends Advocate’s Name For Appointment As Judge Of Kerala High Court
The Supreme Court collegium comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice B R Gavai has recommended the appointment of Advocate Sreeja Vijayalakshmi as a judge of the Kerala High Court.
The collegium initially recommended Sreeja Vijayalakshmi's appointment on December 5, 2023. However, the consideration was deferred on March 12, 2024, pending a report from the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. Following consultations with the high court collegium and assessments of the candidate's performance and background, the recommendation was reaffirmed.
Both the Chief Minister and the Governor of Kerala have expressed their concurrence with the recommendation, affirming Sreeja Vijayalakshmi's fitness for the judicial role.
The notification dated April 16, 2024 read, “We have scrutinized and evaluated the material placed on record. including the report dated 21 March 2024 of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala. The Collegium, therefore, is of the considered view that Smt Sreeja Vijayalakshmi is fit and suitable for appointment as Judge of the High Court of Kerala. In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Smt Sreeja Vijayalakshmi, Advocate, be appointed as Judge of the High Court of Kerala.”
Additionally, in another notification it suggested that Justice Jaggannagari Sreenivasa Rao and Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao be appointed as permanent judges of the Telangana High Court.
The notification dated April 16,2024 read, “In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that (i) Mr Justice Jaggannagari Sreenivasa Rao @ J. Srinivas Rao, and (ii) Mr Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao, Additional Judges, be appointed as permanent Judges of the High Court for the State of Telangana against the existing vacancies.”
