Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Appointment Of Judges For Two Different High Courts
The Supreme Court Collegium comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, and Justice Sanjiv Khanna has recommended the appointment of Judges in the Madras and Karnataka High Courts.
The appointment of the following Judges has been recommended
1) Justice Anant Ramanath Hegde and Justice Kannankuzhyil Sreedharan Hemalekha as Permanent Judges of the Karnataka High Court
The Resolution dated 31 August reads, “Shri Justice Anant Ramanath Hegde and Smt. Justice Kannankuzhyil Sreedharan Hemalekha, Additional Judges, be appointed as permanent judges of the High Court of Karnataka against the existing vacancies”.
2) Justice A. A Nakkiran, Justice Nidumolu Mala, Justice S Sounthar, Justice Sunder Mohan, and Justice Kabali Kumaresh Babu are to be appointed as Permanent Judges of the Madras High Court
The Resolution dated 31 August reads, “With a view to assess the merit and suitability of the above Additional Judges for appointment as permanent judges, we have scrutinized the material placed on record. Having considered all aspects of the matter and on an overall consideration of the above proposal, the Collegium is of the view that S/Shri Justices (i) A.A. Nakkiran, (ii) Ms. Nidumolu Mala, (iii) S. Sounthar, (iv) Sunder Mohan, and (v) Kabali Kumaresh Babu, are fit and suitable for being appointed as permanent judges”.
3) Justice Siddaiah Rachaiah as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court
The Resolution dated 31 August reads, “Shri Justice Siddaiah Rachaiah, instead of being appointed as permanent judge, may be appointed as an Additional Judge for a fresh term of one year w.e.f. 8 November 2023”.
