The Supreme Court Collegium consisting of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai resolved to recommend that Justice Narendar G, currently a judge at the Andhra Pradesh High Court, be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. This appointment is set to take effect following the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Ritu Bahri, on October 10.

Justice Narendar G began his judicial career as a judge of the Karnataka High Court on January 2, 2015. He was later transferred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court on October 30, 2023, where he has been serving since. Notably, he is the senior-most judge in his original High Court and belongs to the Other Backward Class category.

Prior to his elevation to the bench, Justice Narendar G practiced law at the Karnataka High Court. The resolution highlighted that he is an experienced judge with substantial judicial and administrative expertise gained from his tenures in both the Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh High Courts.

Additionally, the Collegium observed that the High Court of Karnataka currently lacks representation among the Chief Justices of various High Courts.

The Notification dated September 24, 2024 read, “The Collegium, therefore, resolves to recommend that Mr Justice Narendar G be appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand consequent upon the retirement of Ms Justice Ritu Bahri on 10 October 2024.”
