Breaking: Kapil Sibal Elected As President Of Supreme Court Bar Association
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal has been elected the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association(SCBA). The counting of the votes just finished and Sibal has garnered 1066 votes.
Senior Advocate Pradeep Kumar Rai came second in the presidential race with 689 votes.
Senior Advocate Priya Hingorani came third. The results of the contest for other posts are not out at the time of publication of this article.
The voting in the SCBA election happened today (May 16) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A total of 2330 votes were polled out of 2850 votes. It means 82.45% of the members of the association have voted.
The last date for filing nominations was May 9, allowing candidates to formally declare their intentions to contest for various positions within the association.
As per SCBA's circular, nominations for the various posts were filled by May 9, and a draft of the list of candidates was displayed on the notice board and on SCBA's website on May 10.
Subsequently, the final list of nominations was displayed on the notice board of SCBA and on the website of SCBA on May 12. Thereafter, a debate of the candidates for the posts of President and Hony. Secretary was held at the Supreme Court lawns yesterday.
This year's Election Committee comprised Senior Advocate Jaideep Gupta as its Chairman and Senior Advocates Meenakshi Arora and Rana Mukherjee as its members. There were six candidates contesting for the post of President of the Association.
The other candidates who contested for the post of President were Advocate Neeraj Srivastava, Senior Advocate Adish Chandra Aggarwala (past President), and Advocate Tripurari Ray.
There were seven candidates contesting for the post of Vice President, among whom were three Senior Advocates. Senior Advocates Sukumar Pattjoshi, Swarup Praveena and Rachana Srivastava contested for the post of Vice President. Advocates Manoj Mishra, Swarup Praveena, Onkar Singh, Sparshkant Nayak and Mohd. Usman Siddiqui had also contested for the same post.
Ten candidates were contesting for the post of Honorary Secretary, and nine candidates were contesting for the post of Joint Secretary. Nine candidates were contesting for the posts of Senior Executive Members. Fifty-four candidates were contesting for the posts of Executive Members, ten for treasurer, and five for joint treasurer.
