Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Transfer Of Justice Shamim Ahmed To Madras High Court
The Supreme Court Collegium comprising Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hrishikesh Roy proposed the transfer of Mr Justice Shamim Ahmed from Allahabad High Court to Madras High Court for ‘better administration of Justice’.
Justice Shamim Ahmed practised in Civil, Constitutional, Service, Labour, Company Law and Criminal side at Allahabad High Court after completing Law from Allahabad University.
He worked as Central Government Counsel in the Allahabad High Court from August 4, 2004 till his elevation as Additional Judge on December 12, 2019 and took oath as Permanent Judge on March 26, 2021.
The Collegium informed that it consulted one of the Judges of the Supreme Court who, being conversant with the affairs of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, is in a position to offer views on the proposed transfer.
The Collegium also consulted the Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad and the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
Mr. Justice Shamin Ahmed by a representation dated August 22, 2024, had requested reconsideration of the proposal for his transfer to the Madras High Court.
The resolution dated August 30, 2024, read, “We have considered the request made by Mr Justice Shamim Ahmed in his representation. The Collegium does not find any merit in the request made by him. The Collegium, therefore, resolves to reiterate its recommendation dated 21 August 2024 to transfer Mr Justice Shamim Ahmed to the Madras High Court.”
