Gujarat HC Advocates' Association Suspends Strike, To Resume Work From Tomorrow
The Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association has decided to suspend the ongoing strike against the Supreme Court collegium's recommendation to transfer Justice Nikhil S Kariel to Patna High Court.
As per Prithviraj Jadeja, in charge President of the GHCAA, the assurance given by the Chief Justice of India to examine this issue in its entirety has led to the suspension of the strike.
The Senior members of the GHCAA had met the Chief Justice of India on Monday. The senior members of the delegation stated that the CJI underlined the fact that the issue of the transfer of Justice Nikhil S Kariel would be thoroughly examined. The GHCAA has resolved that the advocates would resume work from tomorrow i.e., Wednesday.
The Association has also decided that an appropriate resolution be passed condemning the transfer order of Justice Vipul Pancholi and for that, a meeting shall be convened on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
This comes after members of the GHCAA passed a resolution last week strongly opposing the recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium to transfer Justice Kariel to the Patna HC and had also abstained from work as a mark of protest.
The five-member collegium is reported to have transferred Madras High Court Acting Chief Justice T Raja to the Rajasthan High Court, while Justice Nikhil S Kariel and Justice A Abhishek Reddy have been transferred to the Patna High Court. However, neither the resolution nor a statement regarding the decision has been uploaded on the website of the Supreme Court yet.
